Re-inventing Abstraction

Re-Inventing Abstraction 1910-1925 is an ongoing research project that began in 2015 and was first published in 2017 as a zine. In 2013, MOMA mounted an exhibition that claimed “abstraction” was invented in the West in the early 20th Century. This project appropriates and corrects the original catalogue with edits in curatorial essays and the addition of images from global histories of abstraction that have been cut and pasted onto the pages. This zine, which is only a portion of the entire catalogue, was scanned and printed from the master copy.
